Through the foresight and efforts of dedicated parents, OADS has proudly served the community for nearly 40 years.
The Petaluma Training Center opened on July 12, 1971. To address the needs of individuals with development disabilities, the organization advanced from site based programs to community based by developing the Petaluma Recycling Center, along with landscape and janitorial work crews. In 1978, the name changed to Old Adobe Developmental Services, Inc. (OADS) to more clearly state the mission and goals of the organization.
Growth has included expanding Work Services and Employment Services Programs and the establishment of a third service site, Rohnert Park Services. Early on the need for programs for older adults was recognized and the Senior Services Program was established. Also in recognition of our partnership with the community we founded Friends of OADS.
In 2006, celebrating OADS 35th Anniversary, the organization moved to its current site at 1301A Rand Street in Petaluma.
